 Much new information about employee ownership in April 2006, with 877 articles in our press review.
We made a selection of 32 articles in 13 countries (Ireland, USA, Austria, France, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Jamaica, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Kenya, South Africa).
Ireland was the hottest place in April, regarding employee ownership, with the followings of Eircom's serial. At the origin, it was said that Australian investment fund Babcock would propose an offer, but Eircom's employees could be the key-element, being the first shareholder with some 22% held through their ESOP Trust. Now Eircom's Employee Share Ownership Trust seems to emerge as the big winner, and we have a joined offer from Babcock and the Trust. A similar situation might also appear in Ireland about Aer Lingus, the Employee Share Ownership Trust retaining 14.9%.
In the USA, converting a company to employee ownership was a hard sell in the 1970s. It is now a usual idea. Converting businesses to employee ownership, where employees typically own 30 percent to all of a company is gaining popularity. This is what was discussed at the 20^th annual Ohio Employee ownership Conference, and this is what appears through some examples in the American press.
In Austria, workers ownership was seriously questioned, due to BAWAG Bank scandal. BAWAG is the 4^th Austrian bank, fully controlled by Austrian trade unions.
In France, the preparation of a new legislation favouring employee ownership is rapidly progressing.
In Algeria, 1.800 employee-owned companies were created in the few last years, with low success.
In the Middle-East, a growing number of companies going public are planning to offer preferential share allocations to their management and employees.
Jamaica' press tells how an Irish visionary philanthropist embraces employee ownership, which has re-energised the telecommunications industry in Jamaica.

  Beaucoup de faits nouveaux touchant l'actionnariat salarié en avril 2006, avec 877  articles dans notre revue de presse.
Notre sélection propose 32 articles dans 13 pays (Irlande, USA, Autriche, France, Algérie, Emirats Arabes Unis, Jamaïque, Royaume Uni, Allemagne, Suisse, Italie, Kenya, Afrique du Sud).
L'Irlande a été le pays numéro 1 pour l'actionnariat salarié en avril, avec les suites du feuilleton Eircom (les télécommunications). A l'origine, il était question d'une offre de rachat par le fonds d'investissement australien Babcock. Cependant, les salariés  pouvaient être l'élément-clé, puisque qu'ils étaient le premier actionnaire de Eircom, avec 22% du capital entre les mains de leur ESOP Trust. A présent, le Trust des actionnaires salariés de Eircom paraît émerger comme le grand gagnant de l'opération, et on se retrouve avec une offre conjointe de Babcock et du Trust. Une situation similaire est aussi en train de se dessiner chez Aer Lingus, où le Trust des actionnaires salariés détient 14.9%.
Aux USA, convertir une entreprise en actionnariat salarié était une opération inusitée dans les années 1970. C'est maintenant pratique courante. Il devient usuel de transmettre une entreprise aux actionnaires salariés, avec une part de l'ordre de 30% du capital. C'était le thème de la 20^ème Conférence Annuelle de l'Actionnariat Salarié en Ohio, et c'est ce qui apparaît aussi à travers quelques exemples cueillis dans la presse américaine.
En Autriche, l'actionnariat salarié est l'objet de sérieuses mises en doute, à la suite du scandale de la banque BAWAG. BAWAG est la 4ème banque autrichienne, contrôlée à 100% par la confédération des syndicats autrichiens.
En France, la préparation de la nouvelle législation destinée à encourager l'actionnariat salarié progresse rapidement.
En Algérie, 1.800 sociétés de salaries ont été constituées au cours des années récentes, mais les échecs ont été nombreux.
Au Moyen-Orient, un nombre croissant d'entreprises offrent des actions à leur management et à leurs employés. Un rapport fait le point.
Enfin la presse de la Jamaïque raconte comment un irlandais visionnaire et philanthrope s'est enthousiasmé pour l'actionnariat salarié, en redynamisant l'industrie locale des télécommunications.

Irlanda fue el país numero uno del accionariado asalariado en abril, con la continuación del serial Eircom (telefónica). Inicialmente, era question de una oferta de adquisición por parte del fondo de inversion australiano Babcock. Sin embargo, los asalariados podian ser el elemento clave siendo el primer accionista de Eircom, con el 22% del capital detenido por su ESOP Trust. Ahora, el Trust de los accionistas asalariados de Eircom parece ser el gran ganador de la operación, y nos encontramos con una oferta conjunta de Babcock y de Trust. Una situación similar se esta vislumbrando con Aer Lingus donde el Trust de los accionistas asalariados detiene el 14.9%.
En EE UU, era casual en los años 70 convertir una empresa en accionariado asalariado. Hoy en día es una practica corriente. Es algo comun de transmitir a los accionistas asalariados una parte del capital del orden de unos 30%. Fue el tema de la XX Conferencia Anual del Accionariado Asalariado en Ohio, y es igualmente lo que transciende en la prensa americana.
En Austria, el accionariado asalariado esta en tela de juicio con el escandalo del banco BAWAG. BAWAG es el cuarto banco austriaco, controlado al 100% por la confederación de los sindicatos austriacos.
En Francia, la preparación de la nueva legislación destinada a fomentar el accionariado asalariado va por muy buen camino.
En Algeria, 1.800 empresas de accionistas asalariados fueron constituidas estos ultimos años, pero los fracasos fueron numerosos.
En el Medio Oriente, un numero creciente de empresas ofrecen acciones a sus ejecutivos y empleados. Un informe detalla el hecho.
Por fin, la prensa jamaicana, cuenta como un irlandes visionario y filántropo se entusiasmo por el accionariado asalariado redinamizando la industria local en las telecomunicaciones.
