THE PRESIDENCY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION SUPPORTS
EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION

LETTER OF INVITATION

The European Federation of Employee Share Ownership is organizing an international conference in Brussels on 23 November 2001, with the support of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union, under the high patronage of Mr Louis Michel, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium.

This high level international conference will be an affirmation of the political will to develop employee share ownership and participation in Europe.

New initiatives are already programmed in 2001 for the development of PEPPER policies.

The European Commission will publish a Communication on Financial Participation and an Action plan at the end of this year.  The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions has just completed a new report on " Recent Trends in Employee Financial Participation in the European Union ".

These steps are all in the right direction. Financial participation is a positive factor in economic and social development in all regions of the world where it has been encouraged.

In a European strategy it must be regarded as of pivotal importance.

We consequently invite you to take an active part in this conference, which will be held within the prestigious framework of the main room of the Egmont Palace of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels.

We count on your participation for the success of this event and its implications for the future of Europeans, and we remain sincerely yours
